In 1974, CDA began with a simple,
but powerful belief: families thrive
when they are supported.
Charlene Tressler, a single mother raising
four children on her own, understood the
realities facing working parents and saw
an urgent need for accessible, high-quality
child care in her community. With vision
and determination, she founded CDA.
From its beginnings as a small community
preschool, CDA has evolved into a dynamic,
multi-service nonpro昀椀t organization.
Today, more than 370 dedicated
employees advance a mission rooted in
empowerment, equity, and opportunity
for families and child care providers.
Guided by its founding values and
strengthened through decades of growth,
CDA continues to expand its impact—
building stronger communities and shaping
brighter futures for generations to come.
